Service Learning Graduate Assistant

Overview

The CDC is seeking a talented and creative Graduate Assistant to assist with growing the Gary Horowitz Service Learning Program. This position provides the opportunity to contribute within a dynamic, professional, student-focused office and gain valuable hands-on experience managing program events, initiatives, and outreach. Our ideal candidate will be able to work independently with direction and have the ability to take initiative. We mentor our graduate assistants for continued professional growth and expect our graduate assistants to display the utmost responsibility, diligence, and enthusiasm.

Requirements

Education:

  • The successful candidate must have completed a bachelor’s degree
  • All majors are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to candidates with a background or strong interest in service, education, and social justice

Experience:

  • Experience with/interest in volunteering, working with community organizations
  • Experience with event planning, voter registration, community outreach

Qualities & Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Extremely reliable and dependable
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Passion for and commitment to social justice, high level of cultural competence
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment, with both full-time staff and student employees, and possibly supervise undergraduate student(s)
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Other desirable skills include: assisting with special events, social media content creation and marketing, research, presentation and public speaking

Essential Functions

  • Support and participate in days of service and other GHSLP events (30%)
  • Support voter registration and civic engagement efforts (20%)
  • Assist with promotion and outreach at CDC and other Student Experience events (20%)
  • Learn about and promote awareness of community partners via social media (10%)
  • Assist SL Coordinator with research and reporting (10%)
  • Teaching assistant for UNIV/SJST 115, Concepts of Service Learning (10%)

Compensation

Graduate Assistantship (5 hours/week)

Duration

Academic year (August – May)
