Bequest

A bequest, sometimes known as a planned gift, is a donation that you designate in your will or trust. These gifts cost nothing today but sustain Alfred University’s mission long into the future. If you are ready to make your gift today, our partnership with FreeWill offers a straightforward, free online estate planning tool. It's secure, user-friendly, and offers the opportunity to include a bequest to Alfred University. For additional guidance, you can also use FreeWill to outline your wishes before consulting an attorney.

Beneficiary Designation

Did you know you may have additional assets not covered in your will or trust? If you have an IRA, 401(k), life insurance policy, or any additional accounts, these are called “non-probate assets,” and they need to be planned for separately. Using this free online tool from FreeWill, you can log all of your assets, name Alfred University as a beneficiary, and receive printable instructions on how to set each one up with your broker.

70 1/2 or Older? Make Direct Gifts from Your IRA

If you are 70 1/2 or older you may be able to make gifts directly from your IRA which are pre-tax and count toward your required minimum distribution. This is particularly helpful if you don't itemize deductions.
