Current Short-Term Faculty-Led Study Abroad Classes:
- Every other year in January, you can opt to study the basic structures of healthcare systems with a focus on the United States. Embrace your inner jetsetter and explore healthcare issues from the perspective of the United States and the Netherlands. Emphasis will be placed on identifying the major components of all healthcare systems and the basic metrics that evaluate the outcomes of all healthcare systems. The course will culminate by traveling to Amsterdam where you will be introduced first hand to the healthcare system of the Netherlands. You will have the opportunity to visit healthcare institutions ranging from acute care hospitals, community clinics and public health organizations. You will be able to interact with healthcare experts in order to learn more about healthcare in the Netherlands and compare a socialized healthcare system to that of the United States. The course is conducted in English so Dutch language proficiency is not required. Highlights of this 8-day tour include visiting modern and medieval Amsterdam. You will also have time to walk the canals and explore the culture and charm of Amsterdam.
- Every other year over spring break, a group of students visit Costa Rica to learn about entrepreneurism, domestic and international trade, business ecotourism and the culture of the country, while staying at CIEE’s Global Institute Campus. We will be visiting coffee and chocolate (cacao) businesses to experience the diverse operations of both small and large operations with rich histories in sustainability and trade. The 9-day tour will speed by as we traverse Monteverde’s Cloud Forest Reserve, Arenal Volcano and San Jose for fun excursions and if we are lucky, we will spot a sloth, purple hummingbird or a scarlet macaw.
- Each January, you can choose to travel through the cities of Munich, Stuttgart and Heidenheim, Germany to study the German Auto Industry, Robotics and Lean Manufacturing and additionally participate with Germany university students in an international business simulation. The course is conducted in English so German language proficiency is not required. With a goal to understand the importance of having a global strategic vision for the social, political and cultural environments in which today’s businesses operate, you will visit several businesses within the area to fully understand the globally strategic theme. Some highlights from a prior 10-day tour included: the medieval city of Rothenberg, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, MAN Truck and Diesel and historic sites around Munich.
