The Program
This exciting week-long, co-ed summer camp is for swimmers entering grades 7-12 who swim competitively. (Campers MUST be at least 12 years old by start of camp). Designed to enhance the technical aspects of stroke, training and the strategies needed for each camper to compete at the top level of competitive swimming.
This program includes:
- Technical instruction
- Stretching and dry land training
- Training principles
- Stroke development
- Additional advanced workouts available for competitive swimmers who are in training
- Practice sessions held in a 25-yard indoor competition pool, located in Alfred University's McLane Center
- Each athlete will be videotaped and receive a DVD with stroke analysis
- Fun recreational activities
- Camp T-shirt
Tuition, Meals & Housing
Program Cost: $1,000
Program Deposit: $100
This pricing includes tuition, materials, meals, and housing. All housing and meals will take place here on Alfred University’s campus.
Discounts
We are pleased to offer a $100 discount off tuition for students whose primary residence is within a fifty-mile radius of Alfred, New York, as well as for children of Alfred University Alumni and returning students from any Summer 2024 Institute at Alfred University. The Director
Camp Director Brian Striker is Head Swimming and Diving Coach at Alfred University. He was one of the top swimmers in the program’s history while a student at AU, earning All-American certification five times. Coach Striker returned to the University in 2002 to coach the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. In his twenty years at the helm of the program, he has guided the Saxons to four Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association men’s championships (2003, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and five Empire 8 Conference men’s championship titles (2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009).
Striker is a five-time UNYSCSA and Empire 8 Conference Coach of the Year; athletes he has coached have won 163 Empire 8 individual and relays events and 54 UNYSCSA individual and relay events. He shares the school record for consecutive men’s dual-meet coaching victories (28, from 2005-2009). He has coached eight All-Americans at AU, and 71 individual and 31 relay school records have been set. In 2010 Coach Striker was inducted into the Alfred University Athletic Hall of Fame. This is his 20th year serving as Director of the AU Summer Swim Camp.
Facilities
The beautiful Alfred University campus offers modern buildings and facilities, a 25-yard indoor competition pool, classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment, pleasant residence halls and dining rooms and lots of open spaces.
What to Bring
Each camper must bring a swimming suit, towel, swim cap, fins and goggles.
Team Discount
If three or more swimmers from the same school or team enroll in the camp, they will receive a discount of $25 per person. (To be eligible, the same team name must be filled in on each enrollment form.)
Further details and directions will be sent to all campers upon our receipt of their enrollment form and payment.
Alfred University is located in the peaceful village of Alfred in Western New York State, where summer days are warm and nights are cool and comfortable. Surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful meadows and valleys, Alfred University is the perfect place to spend an enjoyable week improving your swimming skills and meeting other students with similar interests and abilities.
The campus, a 6-hour drive from New York City, 2 hours from Buffalo and 1 1/4 hours from Rochester, is easily accessible by car or bus from all directions and is located just five miles south of Interstate 86. The nearest major airport is the Rochester International Airport (about 65 miles north). Transportation to and from that airport can be provided for an additional charge if we receive your request by June 14. After that date campers should make their own arrangements with an airport limo service.
The University may cancel any course or activity at any time because of insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. If a program is canceled or postponed, the University will refund registration fees, but cannot be held responsible for other costs, charges, or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines or travel agencies.
