Op-ed by President Mark Zupan published in Rochester Democrat and Chronicle
An op-ed written by Alfred University President Mark Zupan was published recently in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. The op-ed discusses the University’s commitment to inclusivity and how the promotion of free speech at institutions of higher education should be rooted in a genuine dedication to fostering diversity.
Op-ed, titled “Free speech too small a game for higher ed,” appeared in the Monday, Oct. 23, issue of the Democrat and Chronicle.
“At Alfred University, our bedrock principle is inclusivity. We believe that fostering inclusivity matters the most to the success of individuals, organizations, and nations,” Zupan wrote. “Freedom of speech and thought matter greatly but so do building the power skills of listening and learning to work with others with different backgrounds, viewpoints, and aspirations.”
