Alfred University professor Xingwu Wang recognized by ABET
Xingwu Wang, professor of electrical engineering at Alfred University, has been recognized for his work in the evaluation process for engineering programs seeking accreditation.
Wang earned a Program Evaluators Badge from ABET in recognition of his serving as a program evaluator. ABET accredits post-secondary education programs in applied and natural sciences, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. In his role, Wang participated in the peer-reviewed evaluation of engineering programs at three institutions of higher education over the last three years.
He participated in the on-site review process at one school each in 2023 and 2022; in 2021, the review process was done virtually due to COVID restrictions. Per its policy, ABET does not identify the institutions for which program evaluators conduct peer reviews.
“In our commitment to formally recognize our volunteer experts’ invaluable expertise in program evaluation on behalf of ABET, we are thrilled to offer micro credentials for program evaluators,” ABET states. “Earners of the Program Evaluator Badge have demonstrated, through formal training provided by ABET, the ability to evaluate academic programs in the areas of applied and natural science, computing, engineering and/or engineering technology against approved criteria.”
ABET program evaluators must successfully complete Program Evaluator Candidate Training, which includes online coursework and simulated visit training, and meet specific qualifications and training requirements. Program evaluators who have not participated in an on-site review for two consecutive years or have not been trained by either ABET in the past five years are required to undergo Program Evaluator Recertification Training.
“ABET accreditation would not be possible without Program Evaluators — professionals from industry, academia, and government dedicated to contributing to their professions through the ongoing improvement of the quality of technical education,” according to ABET. “Program Evaluators do the hands-on work of accrediting programs worldwide.”
