Alfred University welcomes 17 new members into its Phi Kappa Phi honor society chapter
Nine juniors and eight graduate students were inducted Thursday, April 13 into the Alfred University chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi in a ceremony at the Book End Lounge in Herrick Library.
Chapter President Roger Loucks, professor of physics and astronomy at Alfred University, presided over the induction ceremony, assisted by Chapter Treasurer Brian Sullivan, dean of Alfred University Libraries.
Inducted from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences was junior Caleb M. Jennings of Little Valley. Inducted from the College of Business were juniors Sienna Cefalu of Buffalo, Allison K. O’Toole of Simi Valley, CA, and Connor Scriven of Peoria, AZ.
Inducted from the School of Art and Design were juniors Josefina F. Fasolino of Huntington, Caroline A. Hendryx of Ithaca, and Zoey M.A. Keagle of Newfield.
Inducted from the School of Engineering were juniors Abigail Grace Gatza of Burlington, Ontario, Canada and Vasilii Dmitrevich Maksimov of Corning.
Graduate students inducted from the College of Business were Jonathan G. Hallios of Clarence Center, Drew P. Jackson of Millbrook, Angela M. Koskoff of Alfred, Joyce Miyake-Faraji of Alfred, Ashley A. O’Toole of Simi Valley, CA, and Anthony J. Ruffino of North Tonawanda.
Graduate students inducted from the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies were Laura A. Beeley of Pittsford and Sarah Ramirez of Alfred.
Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education. Its standards are second to none. The Greek letters of Phi Kappa Phi stand for the society’s motto, “Philosophia Krateito Photon,” which is freely translated, “Let the Love of Wisdom Rule Humanity.”
The Alfred University chapter was established in 1970. In its initiation ceremony, held in the Herrick Library Bookend Lounge, the chapter honored the academic accomplishments of its newly inducted members.
